Bill Brosseau has been involved with vineyards his entire life.  In addition to studies at UC Davis, he has worked for famed wineries spanning Napa to Monterey County.  Bill started the journey of learning organic farming practices in 2006 and by 2007 converted his family’s home ranch to organic.  When the 2007 Chardonnay received the top domestic Chardonnay award from Wine and Spirits magazine that year, Bill knew he was heading in the right direction.  Since then, he has been carefully navigating the path for vineyard owners transitioning to organic methods and achieving higher wine quality.  Bill regards himself as a personal trainer for your vineyard and helping ownership maintain steady dedication during the transition to certified organic.

I am a trusted, forward-thinking leader in the organic sector - bringing a rare mix of regulatory fluency, legal expertise, and creative thinking to my work helping organic stakeholders navigate complexity and drive real impact. I began my career as an antitrust litigator, and later served as counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee. I've been in the organic sector since 2012, first leading federal advocacy at the Organic Trade Association, and later as a senior advisor at USDA (where I helped develop and launch the Organic Transition Initiative). As Strategic Initiatives Advisor to the ACA since 2020, I have focused on topics including inspecting during COVID; consistent implementation of SOE; development of a common OSP; and development of tools to facilitate risk-based compliance verification. I am known for my strategic insight, collaborative spirit, and ability to connect the dots between policy, people, and systems - always with an eye toward building a stronger, more resilient food system.
